Breast Surgery

The decision to have breast surgery is rarely an easy one for a woman to make. For many women, the size and shape of their breasts have tremendous impact on their self-image and self-esteem. Women who believe that their breasts are disproportionately small or large often feel insecure and self-conscious about their appearance. For these women, breast surgery may be a viable option.

With a technique that is equal parts skill and art, Dr. Daniel J. Pyo has helped hundreds of women achieve the shape and body image they desire.

He understands that the most impressive results are always refined and natural looking, not simply “bigger” or “smaller.” As with all his procedures, Dr. Pyo is guided by the principles of balance, safety, and detail, ensuring that your breasts will beautifully complement your body’s size and shape.

The addition of the Portrait 3D system has revolutionized the process of pre-operative planning for breast surgery. This technology enables both the patient and Dr. Pyo to precisely determine size and placement of implants for augmentation, accurate volume estimates for breast reduction, and position changes for breast lifts. The Plastic Surgery Center of New Jersey is one of a few in Northern New Jersey to offer this exciting new technology.

If you are considering breast surgery of any kind, come in and experience what this system can show you. If you are interested in having breast surgery, you will first meet with Dr. Pyo to discuss your options and to establish realistic goals.

All consultations are completely confidential, and your privacy will always be respected. Dr. Pyo will answer any questions or concerns you have honestly and candidly. He wants you to feel absolutely confident in your decision to undergo breast surgery.

Breast Augmentation – Enlargement with Implants

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular, yet least understood, of all cosmetic procedures. Many people are convinced that breast implants are inherently unsafe and “fake” looking. However, under the skilled supervision of an experienced surgeon like Dr. Pyo, breast augmentation surgery is remarkably safe, producing results that are indistinguishable from natural breasts. Indeed, you may soon forget you ever had the surgery performed.

Dr. Pyo does not view breast augmentation as simply a process of giving his patients “bigger” breasts. Rather, he sees it as an opportunity to enhance their natural beauty, providing balance between their breasts and the rest of their bodies. As a result, many of his patients have emerged feeling not only more attractive and feminine, but also more complete and “at-home” in their bodies.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Over time, the effects of gravity and the loss of the skin’s natural elasticity begin to have an effect on the appearance of a woman’s breasts. These factors, along with pregnancy, nursing, and substantial changes in weight, can cause the breasts to lose their youthful shape and firmness.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and tissue are trimmed away and the bust line is tightened and lifted. Remaining tissue and the nipples are then repositioned to create the most natural-looking results. The procedure can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). If a patient wishes, the breast lift can be combined with breast implants to increase both firmness and size.

Breast Reduction

Large, pendulous breasts may cause a woman to experience various medical problems as a result of the excessive weight of the breast tissue. Problems with posture, back and neck pain, skin irritation, and breathing are common with this condition. Bra straps often leave painful indentations on the shoulders. Many women, particularly younger women, feel self-conscious and embarrassed if they have uncommonly large breasts.

Breast reduction is a procedure in which excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin are removed, resulting in smaller, lighter, and firmer breasts that are more
proportionate to the rest of the body. For the majority of patients, Dr. Pyo utilizes the SPAIR technique for breast reduction.

This is a technique that he learned and perfected over the past several years. This operation results in the best possible breast shape with the best possible scars. There are other techniques that Dr. Pyo uses for different situations that will be fully discussed in your consultation meeting with him.

Breast Reconstruction

In addition to cosmetic breast surgery, Dr. Pyo specializes in breast reconstruction, helping those who have had mastectomies or suffered damage to their breasts recover their natural shape and appearance. Aside from his technical expertise, Dr. Pyo is sensitive and patient, removing some of the stress from what might otherwise be a traumatic time in a patient’s life.

Dr. Pyo offers the following options to patients in need of breast reconstruction surgery: expander/implants, TRAM flaps, free TRAM – muscle sparing, and microsurgical reconstruction. Dr. Pyo constantly strives to provide the latest, and most advanced treatments that are available. To this end, Dr. Pyo, along with a colleague has started to perform the DIEP flap breast reconstruction. This latest technique is the ultimate muscle sparing procedure.

Especially beneficial in bilateral cases, it allows the use of the lower abdominal skin and fat to be used in the reconstruction, without the sacrifice of any of the underlying muscle, which preserves 100% of the function of the muscles. Usually performed only in large academic centers, Dr. Pyo is pleased to be able to offer this innovative procedure to patients at Morristown Medical Center.
